At the worded out name, his hand would pull back, eyes growing wide for only a matter of seconds. He couldn’t have heard right. He felt the smile he wore drop, lips pursed in a thin line. He was happy— Or at least he thought so. Falling in love was something unusual for the both of them. Many had told them they have good looks, yet they had nothing to do with their feelings. Only to add, Kasuka was a celebrity. People tended to approach him only so they got a name for themselves. Shizuo. Now, he is a beast. No one would love him, and falling for someone was something he regretted and wanted to forget.
How do you fall out of love?
Gaze averted, looking elsewhere but nowhere closely to the younger of the two. Why Kanra? Sure, the brute and the louse were on good terms, and she had told him how she felt about the youth. The only problem; She is Izaya’s creation. Kasuka might be unaware what that meant, even if he knew how much Shizuo detested the Orihara. Having Kasuka be with Kanra meant a bad future.
He could already imagine the flea mocking him over the situation they’d both be in; Izaya would never show any sign of being annoyed, and that was truly irritating. He didn’t know how the parasite would feel about the idea of having his creation date the protozoan’s younger brother. Would he laugh? Would he get angry? Even so, he’d do anything not to only ruin Shizuo’s life, but Kasuka’s too,
He can’t let it happen.
Teeth bit down his lower lip, digits curling in his hand, nails digging in the flesh of his palm.
“I—- Well, I’ve talked to her quite some and… she likes you. But! She is Izaya’s creation. Kasuka, before going out with her please think about yourself. You know that the flea is dangerous, and he will do anything to hurt you. That’s why… I’m sorry…” I can’t approve of this.
Kasuka…
Forgive me.

Just thinking of saying the name was enough to cause problems, Kasuka knew. The fact that it was an Orihara he had started liking was a problem, though he was sure that it wasn’t for him. Kasuka had been there for it all, during their younger years – he knew more than anyone how much Shizuo hated the one he called a ‘flea’, and he almost felt terrible for falling for someone who shared his name. But then, he also knew that you couldn’t help who you liked, and he knew Kanra. Thinking her to be exactly like Izaya, just another tool to get at the elder of the two brothers, wasn’t giving her enough credit and he didn’t want to be the one who put her in that spot.
So he didn’t look at Shizuo, not wanting to see his reaction. The silence and removal of his hand was enough to let him know, and the talent shuffled again on his spot, moving his weight from one foot to the other. It was the only outward sign of his discomfort over the situation, since it definitely wouldn’t show on his face. Apart from that initial feeling, he wasn’t sure how he felt about this.
“I understand,” he said, paraphrasing earlier words but this time in a completely different understanding to what it had been before. The other’s words were just confirmation of what Kasuka had almost feared, and although he understood why Shizuo was wary over it all, an uncalled for feeling of anger replaced that of dejection.
For a second, he couldn’t understand why Shizuo thought that he could change this – change how he felt for the woman, and he asked himself, who does he think he is?
After that, he had to stop himself and think it over properly. This was his brother, the one who just wanted to look out for him, and he had to think about this rationally. Even if it was Izaya and the fact that Kanra was his creation being his reasoning for it all–
“I don’t think Orihara-san is involved in this, nii-san. I trust her and whatever intention she has,” He paused, seemed to deliberate on his words before he continued. “If it ends up with my being hurt in some way, then so be it.” The talent felt only slightly terrible over the fact he was going against his brother on the matter. Any other time he would have trusted the blond, but this time—it was his choice, in the end.
