If you’re a doctor, why do you spend all of your time getting punched by Celty-san? It doesn’t seem like you’re fixing anyone.

Red String of Fate
Our muses are destined to fall in love on their daily commute

The most that Kasuka could guess was that he’s a doctor.

Of course, the fact that he wore a white coat and suit underneath practically gave that away, though for all the talent knew, it could just be that he enjoyed wearing clothes like that, for whatever reason. Maybe he actually just liked dressing up, rather than actually being the profession he looked like. It wouldn’t be the first time someone did that.

But he doubted that was true. He was a doctor, and that was all Kasuka would believe.

Every day when he got on the train to travel to the agency, the man would be there, sat in the same place and dressed in the same coat, doing various different tasks or just staring out at nothing. Every day Kasuka would notice him and end up watching him, even when he tried not to.

At first he didn’t really see the man, instead keeping his head ducked as a way to keep himself unrecognisable. Then he would look up once he felt it safe, and eventually his gaze would always be dragged back to the other and he was helpless against himself. No matter if he tried to look away, always he would find himself looking back once more.

Without realising it, Kasuka had developed a crush.

It wasn’t as though he knew anything about the man, minus his looks and perhaps the type of book that he read or the newspaper he would bring on board. But he couldn’t help it. A strange, fluttering feeling would attack his chest whenever he saw the man again, and it was embarrassing to think that he had developed what felt like a childish feeling on someone he didn’t even know.

But then he would look up and that thought would be brushed away and it wouldn’t matter anymore, and he’d fall into that crush all over again.

Kasuka’s stop was one after his, and usually he would watch him leave and then turn back in his seat and slump over at his cowardice. Once more he hadn’t tried to talk to him, practically nailing himself to his seat again and carrying on the same routine.

Today was different, though. It wasn’t as if he was leaving soon or there was something pushing him towards the man as though it was his last chance. All that it was, was that he had finally plucked up whatever courage he had.

Before they reached the other’s stop, Kasuka pushed himself up from his seat, taking careful, short steps over to where he sat and standing in front of him, careful not to trip up at the careful rocking of the train. When he stopped in front of him, he looked up and smiled, and Kasuka couldn’t tell if it was happy or confused or anything else, too caught up in his nerves.

After breathing in carefully, he blurted out, “Would you like to go for a drink or something to eat or.. anything with me some time?”

The reply was prompt, and decidedly less nervous than his question and infinitely more cheerful, “Do you mean on a date?”

Kasuka nodded, then felt like that wasn’t enough and verbalised it with, “Yes.”

A wave of relief crashed over him at the following reply, and his shoulder relaxed and he felt like he could smile again.

“I’d love to!”

unlicensed-lover:

“Of course, I can only imagine.” It wasn’t like he was used to it — Then again, all the man had to worry about these days were finding himself in a pinch between obtaining the right tools and prescriptions, and making sure he was paid on time from his patients to even acquire the stuff. For a moment, he was almost close to congratulating the young talent for not getting into the illegal business. But, that was a conversation for another time.
“Oh! Right! The shop is this way,” he gestured off, albeit keeping his tone down so as not to draw much attention for Kasuka’s sake. “Ever been to the Short&Sweet? It was put in a couple years ago and it makes the best parfaits! It’s saddening I can’t get any for Celty to share; they’re chocolate supreme has astounding reviews for the type of fudge they use.”

You would be okay, Just brandish a scalpel at the closest crowd and they would probably shy away, Kasuka thought. Others weren’t too fond of people who carried around a potential weapon, and even with the lab coat the man always worse it would be an unnerving sight. Enough to have them back away for a little while, at least. Though since that had never been tested before, that was all only a guess.

Kasuka looked in the direction that had been pointed, and then back to Shinra again, as though waiting for him to start walking first. No, he answered, though peeked back in the direction of the store again. Being a sucker for sweets and hearing that they used good fudge had him intrigued. It sounds good..

"I'd die for you."
Send "I'd die for you." for my character's reaction.

The actor pauses. It’s all he can seem to do, once those words came from the doctor’s mouth, and if he had been one to show emotion, his mouth would twist into a displeased frown. Die for him. What does that mean? Why would anyone want to die for him? Kishitani-san of all people, no less. Kind as the man is, they have never been that close, and they aren’t now. What makes Kasuka worth dying for, compared to a man who saves lives (even if it is underground work)?

An actor who only does his work just to feel like he’s not an emotionless husk isn’t worth it. Not compared to anyone else, least of all someone he has found himself enjoying spending time with.

He doesn’t speak for a few moments after the words were spoken, just stares blankly at the man in the lab coat, as though it would help him read his mind and figure out why. Nothing happens and the words are hanging in the air and if it becomes awkward, Kasuka doesn’t notice. Instead he just keeps on frowning, and there’s actually a miniscule downturn of his lips. It’s slight and one would have to have extremely good eyesight to see it, but it’s still there.

He blinks slowly, only once, finally looking away and instead turning his gaze to the floor.

Please— don’t.

“Excellently,” his shoulders shook with light laughter. “And brilliant too, considering teens these days deem the Hanejima cut is the next new hairstyle! You’ll fit right in. It’s exuberant with how easy the market sells by the stuff you simply adorn. Clothing, make-up, cologne…” Shinra leaned in, whispering, “I’ll admit I used the latter myself.
Oh, but we could take this conversation elsewhere? I’m in no real hurry and was actually curious on something — Of course, if you don’t mind? There is a sweet shop nearby.”

It was a bit unnerving, to walk around and see other people with the same haircut as him, when before his hair had been a lot more unique. It didn’t mean he complained, however - it was just something to get used to. Fans can be really scary sometimes, he mumbled in return, then gave the doctor a pat on the shoulder at his confession, almost seeming amused by it.

So long as they got out of the crowds… I don’t mind; we can go where you like, he said, especially since it lessened the chance of his being recognised. Plus, sweet shops were just too tempting to pass up.

The grin on his face broadened. He was able to help the younger after all and it certainly left a good impression on him. “Well, I figured as much,” he took a look around the area before raising an inquiry he sort of had for a while of knowing the young star.
“Say, uh, shouldn’t you be ‘under cover’ or… well,” the illegal man gestured to how the streets were starting to pick up on people; most likely tourists as they were in the area consisting of mostly shops. “Not that it’s my business, really, but I thought you rather liked having a low profile with these things.”

image

Kasuka copied the doctor’s actions, looking around the area and how it was slowly filling up with people, as had been pointed out. After a brief moment’s pause, he pulled out some sunglasses from his pocket, sliding them over his eyes and then looking back to Shinra, as though for confirmation.

.. Do these work? He asked, inadvertently agreeing with what had been said - yes, he definitely did like keeping a low profile. Most of the time, however, he just stuck in doors or went out with someone covering him, rather than wandering around on his own. Hence the sunglasses attempt.

Grinning ear to ear at the mentioning of the Dullahan, Shinra adjusted the bag over his shoulder and waved a hand in explanation. “We’ve been doing just fine.~ In fact! We were even discussing about you the other day — You were on the news,” he chuckled.
“Oh! But I’m getting off topic, I think he’ll be off close to late afternoon if you’re curious. Mentioned something about pulling overtime with his boss or something.”

The younger almost seemed pleased at the fact that the two were doing well, nodding along with what the doctor was saying. It was good to hear that there were no troubles after all, even if they weren’t the closest of friends. That’s good, he vocalised, and nodded once again in his thanks.

Thank you, Kishitani-san. Your help is appreciated, Since he would have ended up looking around for the rest of the morning, rather than knowing? Definitely appreciated.

Send me a number from 1-50, without looking at the list!

    15. Does mun believe in love?

{ I was going to ask if I may do that with ours. Get squeaky clean! }

i’m definitely clean and feeling refreshed ;u;
and feel free! it looks neater with a new thread, rather than reblogging the ask, which is mostly why i prefer it.

"Ah! Nice to see you again, Kasuka-kun.~ It's actually been a while, hasn't it? Definitely should come visit when you've got a moment!" If not for his sake, for his roommates' as she adored the actor almost as much as he did as well for his childhood friend.

Kishitani-san, It had definitely been a while, as the man had said. Given their completely separate jobs and the fact that they weren’t friends, all things considered, it wasn’t a surprise. Plus— the man wanted to dissect his brother, when they had been younger, and Kasuka wasn’t sure how the doctor was thinking now. Either way, in a nod to the greeting, he said, I’ll be in Ikebukuro for a while from today..?

image

“Well that’s excellent, right? The papers did say you were on a sort of break, correct?” Enthusiasm was definitely what you’d call his current state as he looked the younger Heiwajima over. If it was one thing about both siblings, they were entirely different from each one another — In and out.
“I’m sure you’ve made plans to see your brother soon, eh? He’s been taking care if you’re wondering; still strong as ever!” And creating more destruction. Shinra laughed.

image

Kasuka nodded once in agreement. As much fun as he had acting - of finding a different self each time - everyone needed to take a break every once in a while. Even if it was forced upon them by concerned agents. At the mention of his brother, however, he seemed to perk up if only slightly.

Yes, he replied, I’ll be visiting him as soon as I can, Depending, of course, on whether or not he was off work and/or chasing Izaya around the whole city. … I’m glad to hear that. Have you and Celty-san been well?
